The Sixth Annual Fiber Arts Festival is coming up and we cannot wait!
The Festival will be held at the Oxford Powerhouse on Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30, 2016, with some additional classes and opening reception on Thursday, January 28, 2016.
Every day, we will post information about one of the 22 classes and information about one of the participating vendors.
Our featured teacher today is Peggy Helm.
Peggy is a basket weaver who says this about her craft: As long as I can remember, Nature has been my solace, inspiration, adventure and delight. I celebrate this relationship through my basket making. I taught myself the Native American craft of pine needle basketry in 1998. Since that time I have transformed this traditional craft into an innovative art form – fusing together the elements of a rich cultural past with the contemporary influences of modern materials and design. Using longleaf pine needles from Florida, I begin the coiling process. What evolves is a basket unique in shape and size, inspired by this love of nature, color and texture. My distinctive award-winning baskets have been included in both national and international exhibits; museum collections and featured in various publications.
Peggy will be teaching Pine Needles and a Gourd.
